You Can Dough It!: How to Clean Your Proofing Basket
Both seasoned bakers and home bakers can agree: baking is fun, cleaning the kitchen after a long day of baking is a whole different story. You can have your cake and eat it, too, by keeping your kitchen and baking tools in tiptop shape while munching on your baked treats.
Practice food safety with a smile as we have whipped up some tips on how to clean your bread proofing basket.
Dust your bread proofing basket
Dust your proofing basket every day before and after use. Doing this helps prevent your dough from sticking to the basket and locks in moisture to keep your dough from drying out.
Sprinkle a small amount of flour and move the basket around to spread the flour into every nook and cranny. Tap to remove the excess flour and leave the basket to dry.
Remove buildup
Proper care and storage help prevent mold from building up in your basket. To remove excessive buildup, gently remove over the proofing basket’s grooves with a brush.
Gently scrape with a dough scraper to remove dried dough bits. While proofing baskets are not meant to be washed, some dried bits require a little bit more effort to get rid of. For stubborn dried bits, use a brush.
Let it dry properly
Make sure your basket is completely dry before storage to keep it free from molds and bacteria. Regularly remove excess flour using a dry brush.
If you see mold forming on your basket, leave it under the sun--the warmth will help dry excess moisture, preventing molds from forming.
